Become a Kreuzherr

The Order of the Kreuzherren mit dem Roten Stern (Knights of the Red Star) is a religious order of priests who live according to the Rule of St. Augustine. After a one-year novitiate, members take temporary vows for three years, which include the usual religious vows of poverty, chastity and obedience. While the novitiate serves to familiarise members with the work and spirituality of the order, during their temporary vows they consciously prepare for the priesthood, with a focus on philosophical and theological studies. After this, they take their perpetual vows and thus become full members of the order.

The Brothers of the Cross are the only religious order founded in Bohemia and the only male order founded by a woman, namely Saint Agnes of Bohemia. Due to the founder’s closeness to St. Francis of Assisi and St. Clare of Assisi, as well as their own development from a hospital brotherhood, the Brothers of the Cross have always attached great importance to works of charitable love. Likewise, active pastoral care in the various dioceses and parishes where the Brothers of the Cross are active plays a prominent role in the life of a Brother of the Cross.

Novitiates exist at the mother house in Prague for Czech speakers and in Vienna for German speakers. Anyone interested in becoming a member of the Order of the Holy Cross is cordially invited to contact us directly at office@kreuzherren.at or with our contact form.
